Everyone was ready for Ronda Rousey´s fight against Miesha Tate at UFC195 to defend her title. However, the plans were inexplicably changed and she will now fight Holly Holm instead.
Rousey made a special appearance on “Good Morning America” on Friday and announced: “January 2, I’ll be fighting Holly Holm, who’s the most decorated striker we have in all of mixed martial arts. Not the women’s division, not the bantamweight division. She’s a 19-time boxing champion. Holly Holm was The Ring magazine pound-for-pound Fighter of the Year, and definitely my biggest challenge to date.”
The fight is scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena at UFC195. This is only three weeks after UFC194. The truth is that fans and pundits do not seem to be too happy about this change of plans. Rousey has already defeated Tate twice. Holms, on the other hand, is an undefeated former Fighter of the Year.
Apparently, the UFC195 trilogy has not received much media noise. During the Good Morning America appearance, the hosts playfully made a comment about why anyone would want to buy tickets to see a Ronda Rousey fight if they do not last so long. Rousey’s last fight against Bethe Correa from Brazil lasted a mere 34 seconds. In fact, her last three fights lasted a combined three minutes and eight seconds.
The fight could generate some high expectations as more details about it and the opponents are unveiled. It is Ronda Rousey after all. Let’s just hope that this fight comes added with some entertainment and several rounds. According to the champion herself, this might be settled with some longer action, fists, and kicks.
“With Holly Holm, she’s the type that’s ready to go 12 boxing rounds. She’s not the average chick that I’d fight. She is the best striker I’ve ever fought and the striking is something I learned much later in my career. I don’t ever expect fights to be easy and fast,” Rousey explained.
